Moss Point NJROTC Excels in Port Clinton, Ohio Competition

Moss Point Navy JROTC performed and conducted themselves excellently in Port Clinton, Ohio during the National Navy JROTC Shoulder-to-Shoulder Service Championship February 13th & 14th.

Although nerves got the best of them on the first day, they were able to rebound on day two and move into the top 10 and ended with the highest score by any Mississippi JROTC in the service championships.

Calep Charlton and Darrell Ray received bronze medals and finished in the top 25 for individual scores.

Additionally, Calep earned an at-large selection to represent the Navy JROTC at the All-Services JROTC National Championships in Anniston, AL March 22-24, 2012.

To put this accomplishment into perspective:  There were over 3,000 individuals on 646 teams that competed for an invitation (qualifying competition) to the Navy JROTC Nationals, Moss Point finished number 10.

Of the top 21 teams and 120 individuals that qualified to compete at Navy Nationals, Calep Charlton was #15 and Darrell Ray #23 and our team was #9.

Calep will represent the entire Navy JROTC against other service branches JROTC next month.  “CDR Slay and I are extremely proud of our team, especially these two individuals,” says Master Chief Greg Goley.
